Ships in a Crate
This is part of the series "Nature on Us" - an anti-apocalyptical scene about the power of nature over human industrial destruction. A cargo ship is one significant symbol of capitalism: the transportation of exploited goods over the oceans is how the west gains constant access to cheap goods. In this painting/illustration, I wish to show a surrealist scene in which the ship has sunk, and from the horror of waste and pollution, mushrooms sprout, and along with them erupts a mountain - I new lifeform. (Mushrooms are possibility the only species that can survive the terrible chaos and destructions humans have bestowed on the earth). The exploding cosmic sky, for me, represents a celebration of the new mountain formation. The painting is in black acrylic paint on canvas, detailed with fine pen line-work, with covered with a protective coating.
