About The Artwork

oil and pastel on photo-printed canvas. ships in a tube Oozing from the binding a gelatinous substance cascades down the pages onto to the terra cotta floor. The book is filled with liquid. Other substances in the book include moist discussions, slippery debates, arguments(dripping with sarcasm), floodlight fights, battles(at sea), wet wars and a deluge of damp destruction. The book is heavy. We cant see inside because the salt burns our eyes and blurs our vision. If we had goggles we could read the table of contents and be happy and decide what to read first. Thumbing the pages is like shuffling a deck of Tarot cards in a barrel of pickle brine. Opening the book upside down by holding both covers outward and allowing the body of pages to fall forward looks more albatross than butterfly. Spilling from the overturned tome is a skeleton key. Looked at closely we see our head glinting reflectively in the bow, our shoulder, neck and torso in the shaft, stem and shank, our hip in the collar, pelvis in the the throating and fins in the in the pin (we are a mermaid evidently). Locating a keyhole in Chapter 3 we insert the mirrored skeleton into the hole and it's a good thing we did because this action opens into a room wherein each wall reflects each wall (an infinity box aquarium which smells of relish) ceiling and floor also affirm one another instead of fully being themselves. Stepping into the room dozens of us appear. We populate the room and are seen from all angles at once . Someone says, "I dont know that I'll ever finish this book."Lets not forget (mirrors cause amnesia) the whole goddamn place is leaking gel and pickle brine. The book is an interior once you’re in it. Shelved (spine out) it's more of a space between things than a space within them. On the wall next to the bookcase hangs a faded (water damaged) poster of Hockney's "A Bigger Splash" from 1967 which is as relevant as anything else in this leaky book of conflicting viewpoints.
