ABOUT THE ARTWORK
This artwork was shown at The Other Art Fair, Melbourne, 2019. Pacific comes signed and dated on the back, and fitted with d rings ready to hang. The body of work aims to present the experience of contemporary loneliness, as told by the painter/self. I employ a process-based methodology which physically puts my emotions and emotional memory onto the canvas. A physical embodiment. The supports are attacked, or stroked with my fingers applying the oil paint marks. A physical extension of myself. This methodology and thought pattern propose a juxtaposition for the viewer to consider. Is loneliness the desired solitude? Or can it be a negative and isolating experience?

Olivia Jones is an emerging artist based in Perth, Western Australia. Delving into the realm of the psyche and subconscious, my work explores emotional states through the sensual medium of oil paint. I am interested in the concept of the Slow Movement, the idea to resist the ‘speed’ and demand of society through deliberately enjoying the moment. This is utilised through a process-based methodology.
