Ships in a Tube
It was built by Governor Diego Melgarejo in 1578 within the integral fortification plan of the city that King Philip II of Spain undertook. Rebuilt in the year 1638, due to what it suffered after the attacks on the city of 1595 by Francis Drake and 1599 by Pieter van der Does. The Palm tree no longer exists due to the movements of the sea and the great swell. It was declared a Historical-Artistic Monument on April 22, 1949, and is under the protection of the generic Declaration of the Decree of April 22 of the same year, and Law 16/1985 on the Spanish Historical Heritage. The castle and the last palm tree which is no longer there took me to the past pictures. I hope the viewers will dream back in time when this castle was a fortification to protect the City. I choose the colour to represent what it is no longer there but it could be.
