Palm Painting

This painting is part of the artist's “Habitat” series, which is a celebration of trees, plants, botanical forms and animals. The painter, Robin Ballard, is originally from Los Angeles, California, where trees and plants are very different from the deciduous forests surrounding Basel, Switzerland, where she now lives. In going back to her roots, so to speak, she created “Palm”. She began by applying thick layers of paint, mixing them on the canvas. Once dry, she applied a dark metallic green to form the tree. In contrast to the background she wanted to the silhouette of the tree to have a feeling of being drawn, instead of painted. The painting is stretched on a frame and is easy to hang.
