About The Artwork

The last cycle of my works belongs to the long-termed project called "Vanishing world". It originates on serious and deep consideration and worry for the future of life on our beautiful, but endangered planet. In spite of the fact that main "characters" on these drawings are animals - zebras, elephants, lemurs etc. - they represent only a sharp metaphor of troubles and sorrows human kind is also passing by. There is a lot of symbolic in the way animals are presented in this cycle: on one side, there are single figures, lost in their solitude and loneliness; on the other side - there are group of beings migrating in search for the new chance of survival. The whiteness of empty space they are surrounded by, suggests their "in-between" position, after leaving the former "home" and before finding a new one. Their imagining "no man's land" is familiar to all human migrants whose number increases every day in contemporary Europe. This is one of the hidden stories my drawings are telling about. From the point of technique, it was challenging to make experiment of combining solely black with colored ink, providing the dialogue between pure drawing and sort of watercolor effects. Another inspiring challenge was also to make a big-size work consisted of many equal parts. This "patchwork"-form tells even more about the hidden narrative of my works: it suggests the fragility of so many species and lonely human beings captured by the climate, global-politicial and economic dangers of our contemporary world.
