In this work I reflected on the bible. The story about the Apocalypse and Petrus. Petrus means also rock. I began with the surface of a rock with creaks ore a dry ground. You see a woman with an ultamarine blue cape 'Petra' that could be a refugee. With her hands she is holding the light. The light ...

Lizzy Geurts Van Kessel

About the Artist

Lizzy Geurts Van Kessel

Netherlands

Fascinated by the wisdom of the body and the emotions that accompany it. We are here simply to experience—to remember that we are energy, light, and nature—and to give this an earthly expression. Through her work, Lizzy seeks to engage in a dialogue with the viewer, the listener, or the person who feels. Art can foster a (deeper) connection with our bodies and with one another—connecting us to each other's emotions and situations, or even to different eras.
As art historian Rudi Fuchs said: "Images exist to help us see."
Lizzy’s challenge is to combine this in her work using both traditional craftsmanship and contemporary techniques. In 2019, she began tattooing alongside her painting practice. It is a beautiful way to create art on the body consciously, complementing her work as an artist. Here, too, energy and the connection to the body converge; Lizzy’s tattoos are experienced as transformative, healing, and deeply felt.
This is precisely the point: that art can remind us of our essence—of who we truly are.
