About The Artwork

Through an exhaustive investigation, with consumers of Peyote, including the Shamans; I conclude that the experience has different stages and intensities in terms of the effects, because each individual responds differently to these effects, but nevertheless, there is a common denominator among all; which is the hallucination stage, which is essentially one of the preponderant effects of Peyote; and it is in the trance of these hallucinations that the individual can see, hear and interact with a distorted reality, which can be both exciting and disturbing and it is in the middle of this experience that the "Close ups" arise. This piece belongs to a series of original abstractions taken from existing original circular pieces. In this particular case; in addition to the subject matter related to Huichol art and the application of geometry; I focused on decontextualizing the original pie that by abstracting it, and by choosing the ideal composition applied on a rectangular panel, I achieved a piece with an entire different identity from the original one. As the original "Peyote Core", "this close up" is also an original mixed media painting made on canvas. I am inspired by the culture of the Huichol people, an indigenous population located in the center of Mexico, mainly in the states of Jalisco and Nayarit. Among many things, the Huicholes are characterized for the use and consumption of Peyote for religious purposes. Happy World Series, deals with the morphology and architecture of the peyote plant, as well as for its effects. At the same time, I re interpreted the aesthetics of the Huichol art, as the result of the effects of peyote. As in all I do; Geometry is still present in my work. Happy World comprises of Painting on latex, canvas, MDF board and Digital; also various types of sculptures, as well as installations. Peyote Core No.2 Closeup mixed media on canvas 175 cm x 130 cm x 5 cm. ***This piece is painted using natural pigments from indigenous communities.

From my early age I have been attracted to architecture and I discovered that modernism is the style that inspires me the most but also the aesthetic legacy of the popular arts of Mexico, especially the indigenous arts, and I thought, how would it be to mix it with the aesthetic concepts of the handicrafts and textiles of these ancient people? I confess that it has been an arduous task of permanent experimentation and I can say that from the beginning of my career I have been an abstract minimalist artist but this process has been organically leading me to a metamorphosis where I have allowed myself to go from the extremes of geometric simplism to the saturation of textures of maximalism.
