About The Artwork
I was inspired by El Greco's painting of Pieta and fascinated by the combination of its colors. I loved the purple sky in the painting and the light simmering through the clouds. The completion of Pieta took me more than a year and it taught me to be patient and never to give up. There were days when I felt like I couldn't accomplish the task and I wanted to give up. Most of the time, I painted during the night, when I had some time available. The most difficult to paint was Mary's face, and that was because I couldn't reach her emotion. I wanted to immortalize her pain - but I couldn't find it. Sometimes, I had to reach inside my own soul for answers. Sometimes, I had to leave my troubles behind and ask for forgiveness. I wanted to paint Mary's expression the way I saw her through my own struggles and I realized that one day, the painting would show me the way. When it happened - I learned that in life everything is possible.
