About The Artwork
Pink Dynasty is a mixed media piece inspired by Marilyn Monroe's diaries which were published in 2010. A copy of one of the pages from the actresses' diary is visible on the work on paper, which is framed and encased in a sheet of plexiglas which is also painted. The use of multiple layers in the artwork represents the different sides of Marilyn and who we think she was versus how she portrayed herself to the world. The soft pinks are also an ode to Marilyn's beauty and vulnerability, while the bold black brushstrokes represent her inner strength and struggles.
