About The Artwork
The starting point for this painting was an old gate which I photographed in London. I wanted to create an abstract composition and just a few details to show the viewer some traces of a gate. What is special at this painting is the combination between really strong colours and the balance between the painterly surfaces and the ones with strong lines.

My name is Bianca Andreea Mierlea. I am a Romanian artist, born in 1999, based in London. I just graduated from 'Chelsea College of Arts' -UAL , BA (Hons) Fine Art. My practice has always been about colours and painting in general. As an artist I like to push my limits and experiment as much as I can. In my current work and painting practice I am combining abstraction with figurative elements: architectural details with female figures. Through my works I am exploring the position and the role of women in public spaces, how they were perceived centuries ago in comparison to nowadays. As part of my research I use my walking journeys around London and also from my hometown Brasov, Romania. In my paintings I like to use vibrant colours and strong brushstrokes.
