About The Artwork

Pink Jellies is inspired by my exploration with painting underwater scenes. This painting is about capturing fun abstracted jelly fish and sea creatures. I play with depth by layering semi translucent images over each other which gives a sense of dimension under water. I how viewers will enjoy the playfulness of the painting.

Dominique Smallcombe is a visual storyteller. Starting with her degree in Visual Arts from UNSW and her early career in the Australian film industry, she shares her creative artwork in a way that is best described as electric and uplifting. Dominique's passion for colour permeates throughout her work, it is one of the elements that fuel her abstract paintings, weaving the energy of light, patterns, and textures from the world around her and reflecting it back onto the canvas with energetic marks. Her work is as uplifting as it is inspiring and reflective of her own positive optimism. Bright, colourful, and textural, there is a quest for joy and playfulness imbued within every stroke and mark. Intentional, yet intuitive, Dominique’s energetic connection is visible and visceral in her compositions and leaves the viewer with a sense of harmony, wonder and wide-eyed resolution. Dominique favours the freedom of a multi-disciplinary mixed media approach. You will often find acrylic, oil, collage, charcoal and pencil marks woven into the stories of her work. A nod to the textural and gestural. A journey where there is a fearless use of colour and unapologetic use of form and shape, always leaving the viewer more hopeful and inspired than they were before.
