Plume of Refinement Painting

To create this painting I worked from a photograph I took while riding on an Amtrak train in Southern Pennsylvania, near Marcus Hook. The industrial plant in the distance, with the tower giving off a large plume (enhanced, I believe, due to rainy weather and high humidity) was a striking sight. I was able to photograph it well enough to paint from even though the train was moving along. The painting is not a protest against anything. Rather it is simply a juxtaposition between large, important, man-made structures and a rather bucolic suburban setting. The colors are pushed around a bit, and I think I enjoyed using some shades of violet in various parts of the image that were not likely to be detected real-time in the original scene.
