ABOUT THE ARTWORK
This reference is from a photoshoot I did with a good friend of mine. After mulling over this shot, I visualized my friend being surrounded by butterflies as he lit his cigar. Once I figured out the visual aspect of this piece I quickly searched for and found a title for it. My friend was wearing a José Martí t-shirt (that I designed years ago) during the shoot so I did a quick Google search to see if Martí had any quotes relevant to butterflies. And to my surprise he actually had a book called Polvo De Alas De Mariposa or Dust Of Wings Of Butterflies.

Carlos Antonio Rancaño was born in Miami, FL. from Cuban/Panamanian parents. After graduating Cum Laude from MIU with a Bachelors Degree in Graphic Design, he started his career in Advertising. Even though he was always keen to drawing, it was the strict rules of design that gave way to his paintings. The free spirit that lives in his work is a direct response to the more simplistic approach of Graphic Design.
