About The Artwork

"I had a lot more fun being in my 20s during the 70s than I am being in my 70s during the 20s." Joe Walsh I was once stranded hours from home in the Pocono Mountains on a hot Sunday afternoon in August 1970 something, and I was not at all happy about it. Chip had driven us to his family's lake house and we had a great time partying all weekend with his brothers and sisters. I had every reason to believe that when the weekend concluded we would drive back home. But no. There would be no ride home from Chip. Simple miscommunication, but I needed to be at work to start a new job on Monday morning. No way I could stay another night. Chip had neglected to tell me the car we arrived in had to be given back to his sister Lauren who was going to be driving north rather than south at the end of the weekend. Hitchhiking was my only option. In those days people were cooler and more trusting so we got around with our thumbs sometimes, but I preferred to know what I was getting into with some advance notice. Instead we were unceremoniously dropped off at the intersection of I-80 and the NE Extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike. Chip won the coin flip, so reluctantly and with considerable grumbling under my breath I stood by the exit ramp from I-80 and put up my thumb. Chip posted up diagonally at the preferred place to catch a ride near the entrance ramp to the southbound PA Turnpike. Lo and behold... the very first vehicle off the I-80 ramp stopped and threw open the passenger door for me. Eureka! Best of all, my ride was the 18 wheeler Barnum & Bailey Circus truck that carries the lions from town to town. The driver took pity on me and drove past his own exit to mine instead and delivered me directly to my house in record time. Two hours thumb to door. Caused quite the stir on my little street, too. Word was later leaked out that I had been traveling with the circus learning the art of lion taming. This greatly added to my legend in the neighborhood after that day.

After a 30 year career in advertising and sales leadership I escaped the corporate media world a few years ago and can now focus on creating my own work. In other words, I'm an outsider artist that has decades of ideas pouring out. My intent is primarily to create pieces of art that are highly visual and interesting to enjoy and study... but may often express ideas, ask questions, unearth feelings, debate opinions, or sometimes be provocative. Like many paintings though, they're often just a combination of lines, shapes, colors, textures, and space. That said; I hope my work presents a UNIQUE combination of art elements to you and that you like what you see. Better yet, I hope you believe some of my pieces should be included in your collection. I've traveled the world but have always lived in the Philadelphia area. While I have no formal training as an artist, I've been a photographer and I've been around the art community my whole life. My wife Suzanne works as a Docent for the Barnes Foundation in Philadelphia, and together we've raised three wonderful sons that are all now making their own way in the world. We have a home and our studio in Chester County PA with our Bernese Mountain Dog; Mr Charlie.
