About The Artwork

One of my “Anachronistic Etudes” series, this painting explores the passionate motifs and style of the Mexican painter Frida Kahlo. Instead of simply copying my favorite paintings, I prefer to create new compositions that borrow familiar motifs from well-known works, but that also introduce a few anachronistic twists, such as putting Frida into Diego Rivera’s painting of the Calla-lily Vendor. The Dears and Dogs mentioned in the title is an intentional pun, referring both to Frida’s famous pets, as well as to her lovers, Leon Trotsky and Diego Rivera.
