Mantis is a very rare insect that we see in nature. In today’s world global warming and poaching is really affecting the nature and the animals and insects. For example, Red Panda, One horn Rhinoceros are already endangered. We have to protect the Mantis. They are all part of nature. We need to take responsibility to save these species. I was always inspired from this insect and from the nature. Mantis looks very fresh and always attracts me due to its green colour. I have placed my Mantis on a hilltop. Nowadays we don’t see evergreen hills. In fact we see concrete buildings on the hills, due to over population. The Mantis is looking for hope to live in this world. The mediums that I always love to use are water colour, oil pastels and pen. These materials are easy to find in any shop and very convenient to use. The textures that I have used are dots, zigzags, stripes, scribbles, which are signatures of child art. These textures remind me of every child art. In this painting there is no particular style. I paint in my own style but I always admire to see Henri Matisse’s painting, so there is a little bit of Matisse’s influence on my works.

I am an art lover and artist from a small tribe of the Karbis, who are habituated in the north-eastern parts of India. I take most of my inspiration from my tribal traditions, and the nature loving culture that I belong to. Hence many of my works include traditional Karbi motifs as well as natural motifs. I also take inspiration from some western artists like Matisse but try to interpret the ideas with my own ways of doing art. I mostly work in terms of paintings, textile works and collage works.
