About The Artwork

The painting “ Prism “ deals with the collection of stored internet communications based on demands of huge internet companies, the lack of privacy and constant observation by electronic devices. On its four layers of laser-cut stainless steel you find embossed profiles of faces and vein-like hints of cables symbolising the stream of information online. Each layer leads the viewer to the center of the painting where two faces look at each other in the smallest area of the painting by proportion as a symbol of privacy and togetherness. The whole painting was painted with a rarely used pigment that has the ability to split light like a prism. therefore it shines in all colours found in the spectrum of a rainbow. This color was purposely used as a reference to a prism that splits light in a similar way. A reference to the prism itself is also made by the shape given to the painting.

Born in 1985 in Germany. Veit Schmidleitner had an education as a Varnisher and received his apprenticeship diploma in 2007. He studied graphic design in Marbella / Spain. Back in Germany he worked as a post producer for photography and got into working with metal through his Father and Mentor Günter De Rosa. Schmidleitner started creating large-scale metal sculptures in 2011 and assisted other artists to complete their works. While working on commissions, Schmidleitner developed a way of merging laser cutting with his unique painting technique which enabled colours and shapes to form his own visual language which commonly depicts religious and social occurrences. He uses cryptographic elements to develop a story that is not being told, but rather needs to be called into question and interpreted. Colours are given a specific meaning and coupled with theme and presentation. With the gloss surface, viewers are exposed from different angles, to their own reflection and are thus an interaction of the form and color of the artwork.
