Pu'er Impression #2 Painting

I like the immediacy of collage and acrylic paint. I like to pick up on happy accidents and magnify or multiply them. These days I am working with Chinese materials - the brushes, ink and water-based pigments on the thin so-called 'rice paper'. I enjoy the surprises after the ink and colors have dried and subtleties in the layering appear. I would like to say I am self-taught, but that may not be completely accurate, as I received some training from the painting faculty at Indiana University, and was awarded a fellowship towards summer study at Vermont Studio Center. Like most art, the meaning of the works is open for interpretation. I believe that they are reflective of the qualities the artist brings and the time and place in which he lives.
