Painting, Acrylic on Wood
Size: 24.4 W x 19.3 H x 3.4 D in
My present painting is seeking to find the relationship between color and form, in 2D and in relief. I am looking to find forms that I feel exclusively mine, unique like certain elements of terrain patterns or pieces of a puzzle. I place these forms in front of each other in three layers, which together, just like in hip-hop music the different sounds, create an organic, unified whole. A recurring theme in my pictures is compressing the different types of patterns into one composition. Even though from the beginning of my studies I was always attracted to abstract painting, in the course of my studies in painting, through the wide range of figurative themes and with systematic work I reached total abstraction subconsciously. The graphic structures gradually became geometric, then I started to place spatial elements and 2D figures on the surface of my works. It was only one more step for these spatial situations to become two dimensional and then in almost every occasion a pattern, of which I was initially afraid due to its decorativeness. Since I recognized, however, that painting patterns is one of the purest painting languages of art, even if temporarily, I discarded spatial portrayal. Hungary
I was born in 1983 in Budapest where I got acquainted with the basics of painting in Hungary’s oldest secondary school of arts (the institute is 242 years old this year). I graduated in 2009 from the Hungarian University of Fine Arts majoring in Painting where my master was Zoltán Tölg-Molnár. My abstract painting – inseparably interwoven with it - is complemented by my pop music and my teaching: I have been part of the Budapest underground music life as Gazsi Rap Show since 1996. I have been teaching since 2009 at the Painting Faculty of my former alma mater, Secondary School of Visual Arts in Budapest. Besides numerous group and standalone exhibitions, among my individual presentations from the past few years are „Forms, Contrasts, I’m building and disrupting” (Budapest, Neon Gallery, 2014), „The Lost Monor Rolls” (Budapest, MÜSZI, 2016) and „Layers” (Budapest, Karinthy Szalon, 2020). I prepare my works of unique design on various carriers using oil and acrylic paint. What they have in common, beside the diversity of the applied raw materials, is the persistent quest for the harmony of color and form, and the playful and systematic combination of them.
