A feeling of hope, lightness of being, early morning atmosphere and quiet reflection was my inspiration for this piece. Gold leaf gives the impression of decaying from the surface to reveal layered textures of white and pastel marks evocative of sunlit mist, ancient stone buildings, and weathered waterfronts.

The memory of a place from a dream, the echoes of an alternate history that has been imagined and never made real, or the nostalgia for a certain quality of light are the muses most demanding of my attention. In my paintings I'm often reaching to evoke the atmosphere of geographies I've visited or imagined. Other times, a metaphysical impression of a conversation or relationship dynamic becomes the basis for my exploration in colour and mark making. From my personal visual language, a sense of space and my impressions of the sublime experience of landscape often emerge from abstraction. We are all makers of our subjective experience, so it’s my hope that when you look at my paintings you will see something universal and yet very personal reflected in your own life experience and sensory memories. The very stimulation of our memories when looking at one thing that makes us think of something else creates connections, touchstones, triggers, and entry points that allow art to bring our solitary experience closer together. Art is a conversation.
