Artist Recognition
Artist featured in a collection
With a semi-abstract painting, where the artist is including a recognizable figure with pure abstract forms and color, the problem is always to mate the two in a way that makes both components compatible. Here I am using the female figure, the old newspaper as a departure point, leading to the less definitive shapes and colors of the bulk of the painting. I have kept most of this painting within a pallet of warm, earthy colors while making the dress a highly contrasting red. With this work, I am showing an epiphany. The figure is shielding her eyes from some unhappy image. Perhaps there is a recognition that a change is necessary. REMEMBERANCE OF THINGS PAST is a one-of-a-kind original work of art. It is produced using India ink and acrylic paint. I have stayed with my usual pallet of warm “earthy” colors. The old newspaper has been printed on a high resolution printer and laminated to the mylar surface medium. The figure and remaining elements are painted on the face. The painting is signed on the front and comes with a signed certificate of authenticity. This painting will be ready to hang, out of the box. It will be mounted on one inch thick foamboard with a two inch border all around. It has a 1/2" wide simple frame that is painted in a contrasting color. It will have a hanging strip on the back and I include a “monkey hook” for easy attachment to your wall. It can be on your wall within five minutes.

I am an architect by education, and profession. I have practiced architecture for over three decades. A good deal of my experience as an artist developed from doing architectural plans and illustrations. In addition to my architectural work, I have always enjoyed producing works of "visual art". It has provided a wonderful counterpoint to the precise work involved in architectural drawings: the highly precise vs. the "free and spontaneous". I still work with the same media that I have used in architectural work: India ink, graphite pencil and acrylic paint on archival quality mylar film. I like for my work to show either emotion or action.... Occasionally both. Emotion is usually captured in a close-up portrait or perhaps full figure drawings. Action is depicted in dance or sporting events. Other than that, I don't have any deep philosophical ideas about my art except that I want to produce works that people will enjoy and be proud to have hanging on their walls.
