REVELATIONS I: Tracks Painting

I paint with spray paint on the back of a very thin, clear panel. My latest work involves the building of a new background by destroying an existing painting with paint stripper--which organically distorts the back surface of the co-polyester panel--and repainting. The panel is allowed to expand and warp in the sun to further distort the final artifact of my painting process. The background is then etched mechanically to create the spirals, arcs, and straight lines that recall the trails of sub-atomic particles, as captured in the detectors of the super-colliders of particle physicists. These lines are then pigmented with glitter and nail polish. Finally, the entire panel is heated again in the sun, under glass, to create a flatter object and to accentuate the erratic dimensionality of the decorated material. Thus, the invisible building blocks of the universe are made visible in scintillating color on a chaotic, organic background, seen through a distorted and distorting, thin, clear panel.
