Rage is the second in a series of paintings inspired by emotions felt during dealing with the mental illness depression. I use acrylic on canvas as this is my preferred medium. The reason for abstract painting is due to the fact many people around the world suffer, often in silence with the many mixed and complex emotions of depression. It is often hard to know oneself how to explain ones feelings clearly, let alone to others. So I felt using an abstract style more apt at expressing various emotions. It is an illness that deserves a lot more understanding and empathy. I hope through my artwork to try and raise awareness for depression and lessen the stigmas attached to admitting one has a mental illness, thereby enabling more people to seek out help and support.

I am an emerging artist. I was born in South Africa to a Cypriot father and South African mother. I also have a brother. When I was 18 I left home and travelled to the UK then onto Cyprus, it is here I met a wonderful woman and fellow artist, Ellie Lestas. I would sit weekly in her art studio in a village in Cyprus where she would give me art lessons and help me build a portfolio. After 2 years I returned to South Africa, where I studied Graphic Design. My course included photography and fine art sketching with a few painting classes. After 3 years I travelled to the UK and now live here with my husband, teenage son and dog. Since I was a young child I have always loved to be creative, but over the years life seemed to get in the way and my artistic talents lay dormant. I have recently decided to stop wasting my talents and rekindle my passion for painting, photography, drawing and any other direction my creative ideas decide to take me to. Photography is something I am also extremely passionate about and hope to be able to share some of my work on this site soon. My inspiration for my work are human emotion, human conditions and human relationships with each other. I also love my family, friends, animals, travelling and nature. I have a varied like of art and artists alike both new and old. It was quite a challenge to get my son who is more scientifically minded, to understand a few years back on a trip to London's art gallery how I could be moved to tears just looking at some of the artwork displayed. I was most overcome with emotion seeing original art works up close. I would say I was more of an abstract, conceptual painter and enjoy working with acrylics. I hope to grow and improve and never put my paintbrush, charcoal or camera down ever again as being creative is when I am happiest, feel fulfilled and time seems to run away with me.
