About The Artwork
I was inspired to do Rebecca’s portrait to express the importance of ‘Black Lives Matters’ that was so dominant on the news during the pandemic. Rebecca is my sons girlfriend and I really found her smile very uplifting . I feel her expression caught the ‘timeless’ mysterious smile of Leonardo Da Vinci’s ‘Mona Lisa’...a Black Mona Lisa! I use the Gold-leaf surround to ‘uplift’ the image inspired by the use of Gold-leaf in Early Renaissance frescos.
