Reflecting Painting

For better or worse, I'm extremely emotional and sensitive. This has helped me greatly in some instances, however it's intensified pain and sorrow. My hardships have formed who I am and I wouldn't change a single one of them. I took a photo of myself when I was going through a very negative emotional time. I felt empty and unable to conjure up any true emotion besides a constant melancholy that wore away at me. I yearned to cry and get the emotion out but for whatever reason, during this period. The picture is actually the reflection of a mirror at an old shabby house I used to live in when my family was struggling financially where I underwent some of the most difficult times of my life. I'm staring into it after a shower, seeing the condensation at the top juxtaposing my inability to cry. My face is contorted in a pained state and my eyes are watery, yet it's not enough to create tears or provide relief. The mirror is a nod to the past present me reflecting on past past me. I thought my emotions were more of a weakness or burden, but really they were powers which allowed me to fully understand and acknowledge my emotions, and eventually carry on.
