About The Artwork

In the quiet of my studio, the canvas before me became a sea of emotions, reflecting the inner turmoil and beauty that coexists within the human soul. This painting, a diptych, explores the duality of our nature, the part we show to the world and the part we keep hidden in shadows. On the left, vibrant flowers burst with life, their petals unfurling with a fervor that seems almost palpable. These are the parts of ourselves we celebrate and share—joy, love, triumph. The colors are rich and deep, illuminated from within, as if each stroke of my brush was coaxing the light to dance upon the canvas. As I moved to the right side, the flowers become echoes of themselves, submerged in the darkness that tinges every life. These are the silent whispers of our fears, regrets, and sorrows. Yet, even here, there is beauty—the kind that is more poignant because it knows pain. The strokes are heavier, the colors more somber, but there is a harmony in the contrast, a reminder that there is no light without darkness. The hot pink line that slices across the bottom is the sudden jolt of reality, the undeniable presence of now, which holds both past and future in its embrace. It's a grounding force, a stark, unapologetic streak of truth that anchors the ethereal blooms. As the creator of this piece, I poured my contemplation of the myth of Narcissus into each stroke. The reflection we admire, the image we fall in love with, might be just a fragment of our full being. With this painting, I invite the viewer to ponder their own reflections, to see beyond the surface, and to find peace with both the light and dark within.

Glenn M. Skibsted is a contemporary artist who works in oil. He has had several exhibitions both internationally and his home country, Norway. "Human nature, light and environment are the basis of my work. Portrayed in scenes of everyday life where thinking, feeling and acting is something that naturally bonds us all. The aim is to recall, reveal and make available essential emotions and traits that often can be left to fade away. Whether they come from our ethnological background or whether they have been shaped by environmental/surrounding influences they all are elements of human nature, defining our choices, impulses. The final result of my research is aimed to challenge the viewer both esthetically and emotionally. As a reference to something that "Le Corbusier" once said - I want my work to be a thought that reveals itself without word or sound, but solely by means of shapes, which stand in a certain relationship to one another. I would like to plant a seed. The rest is up to you." http://glennskibsted.com
