Release Painting

The only constant in life is change, so the profile I write today can only reflect what I am feeling now. Instead of trying to make a profound artist statement here, I'd rather just focus on being present in my own life, and trust what my instincts are telling me to do as an artist. After many years as a decorative painter, working only by commission, I decided it was time to bring forth the artist I was born to be, and start painting from the heart again. The catalyst was my father's passing, after enduring almost a decade of dementia. The first few paintings I did had a somber, lonely feel to them, which, somehow, made me feel vulnerable. I was hesitant to show them, thinking they might reveal my sorrow instead of my brave face. But then I realized that expressing sadness through painting is also a way of communicating empathy to others who have experienced loss. The second batch of paintings were done in Barbados. This Caribbean Island offered respite, healing and a decision. I had brought a portable studio-suitcase and several prepped canvases so I could work on site. The experience helped me envision my new business model. That of a traveling painter. The paintings I create are small, but when placed in the right setting, they will remind you of the powerful need we all have to connect with nature. I look forward to sharing my journeys with you.
