USS McCampbell (DDG85) is an Arliegh Burke (FLTII) class destroyer in the U.S. Navy, currently forward deployed and homeported in Yokosuka, Japan. The artist served aboard this ship for 3 years as the deck department leading petty officer. This particular painting is based on an experience I had. The ship executes a high speed starboard turn in heavy seas while the flight deck crew is preparing the flight deck for a landing. Soon a large wave would sweep across the flight deck, dragging all of the sailors across the deck. This painting depicts the moment right before that happened, with the artist being the sailor in red on the left. The painting is framed in a black ornate gallery frame and ready to hang!

United States
Most of my artwork revolves around military and particularly naval subjects. This is mainly owed to my experiences during twelve years in the U.S. Navy, ten of that at sea. I enjoy painting historical subjects as well as from my own personal experiences at sea. I also enjoy portraiture and depicting people. My biggest influences are marine artists of the Dutch Renaissance, such as Van de Velde, and Romantic Period artists such as Turner.
