About The Artwork
Beachcombing at low tide after a storm on a Maine beach. It was spring and the seaweed was at it's peak, wrack, irish moss, sea lettuce, kelp, was thrown up on the shore and left in these fluid wreaths. I like the graphic quality and the colors were incredibly beautiful. I had been working on sea nearscapes for some time, preferring the near view for it's drama rather than the landscape. I wanted to capture the action of the retreating tide as it gently coaxed the seaweed into place.

My most recent work evolved from living on an island in Maine. Seeing water as a verb, I discovered the specialized life in the many intertidal zones and began to see that zone as a microcosm, a minature version challenges that climatic change was imposing on earth. My fascination grew with the manmade plastics and refuse showing up and becoming part of the tidal landscape. A residency on a freshwater lake extended my interest in the significance of water in our lives.
