Remnant 2012 18"x16" acrylic on canvas is part of my rotation series where I put paint on the canvas then spin it on a rotating platform that I made. This series of works were completed in 2014 and the rotation arm dismantled.
No paint was directly applied to the canvas. All paint was splattered from other paintings.

ABOUT THE ARTWORK

No paint was directly applied to the canvas. All paint was splattered from other paintings. All paint on this canvas was splattered from other paintings. No paint was directly applied to the canvas. This dynamic artwork is a vibrant explosion of color and texture, masterfully executed through a complex interplay of hues and forms. The canvas is drenched in a myriad of colors, ranging from deep, resonant blues to fiery reds and oranges, interspersed with stark whites and earthy browns. Each color appears as a unique splash or dot, creating a pulsating rhythm across the canvas. Foremost, the use of splatter technique is evident, with droplets and dribbles of paint skillfully applied to form a chaotic yet harmonious composition. The textural variety is striking, as thick patches of paint coalesce with more delicate splatters, giving the piece a three-dimensional quality. This creates an engaging visual experience that draws the viewer deeper, urging them to explore the countless details within the abstract field. The artwork’s vivid contrasts highlight the tension and cohesion between different colors and shapes, leading to a sense of movement and energy. This kinetic force suggests an underlying narrative of creation and destruction, a chaotic dance that captivates the imagination. The precision in the chaos indicates a deliberate orchestration, where each splash, dribble, and dollop of paint is placed with intentionality, adding to the depth and intrigue of the piece. Overall, this artwork is a tour de force of contemporary abstract expressionism, combining robust technique with an emotive potency that demands attention and reflection. It is a captivating testament to the power of color and form in evoking complex emotional and intellectual responses.

I have come to a realization about myself and my art. I am impatient and I have need for instant gratification. I get frustrated with time consuming traditional techniques and want to skip ahead to the end. These are the reasons that I am a series artist. I like to experiment with an idea or a technique until I am satisfied with the result. The inspiration for my work is in trying the new techniques. Having freedom of expression and not being limited to one style or technique of making art are paramount to my identity as an artist. I love the many different processes of making art and experimenting with new ways of creating art. My inspiration stems from color, music, literature, and the excitement about the unknown possibilities of taking everyday objects and using them in a way that differs from what the manufacturer intended. I use a combination of found objects, acrylic paints, and aerosol paints to create abstract patterns on wood and canvas. Some of my methods include combining different chemicals and paint on paper or in plastic or wood box frames and using centrifugal force and gravity to distort vivid colors that are mixed or thrown right on the canvas. The result is the distortion of lines and contours, and layers of translucent or opaque paints on the canvas or in random patterns.
