Our ability to 'see' landscapes has radically evolved through the use of technology, and the extension of what we consider to be 'landscape'. Traditional landscape is redundant for me, as a challenging way of seeing and recording our environment, much as photography superceded portraiture. With the advent of aerial photography, and subsequently the Hubble Space Telescope, X Ray, Infra Red and Ultra Violet imaging have allowed us to experience the once invisible theatre of the universe. Geophysics has allowed us to see through solid surfaces to reveal what was once hidden from our eyes. This evolution of the visual experience has brought about a convergence with indigenous art practice that has for millennia combined elements of time, geography, multiple viewpoints and ceremony into the making of visuals. This is the space, literally, that excites me in our contemporary world; the space that generates and informs my work.
