About The Artwork
Crowned lapwing (Vanellus coronatus), sub-Saharan Africa. She's standing by a road we built, and it goes nowhere. Technically: I'm intrigued by the use of very liquid paint to create dream landscapes. Alkyd oils on board, with acrylic underpainting and additional use of graphite pencil and marker pen. Board edges white. Varnished. Signed and dated bottom right. Size 50 x 50 cm (19.7 x 19.7 inches), edge depth 2.1 cm (0.8 inches). See also "Vanellus miles", and perhaps soon a third in this series.
