Rooster Collection / Rooster - Sometimes I cry / 2023 "Happiness is not a smiling face!" Anže Gallus Petelin's art project - conceived as a lifetime project (from 2022 to 2082) I have had a rooster (petelin) inside me since birth. My surname is Petelin. Until I was 40, I avoided this motif. I did not feel it. I didn't see enough originality in it. So one day, through a large series of paintings entitled Human, Life and Meadows, I found myself standing in front of a blank canvas. It seemed that the Human - the painter - had left LIFE and was lying on a mown summer MEADOW. Silence. Whiteness. Emptiness. And so one cold night - I heard a rooster crowing in the distance. I picked up my paintbrush and painted the first one. Painted the second. Passion was awakened. The passion that the rooster and the Rooster (Petelin) carry within them. The rooster is a symbol of the sun, of light. A new beginning. It is rebirth. Its song awakens the morning - awakens passion. And so the PETELIN project was born, conceived as a lifetime project; from 2022 to 2082. Each rooster in the PETELIN collection is like a unique diary of a painter, expressed in a visual language. It is an outpouring of the soul, a record of emotions, an interplay of laughter and tears, admiration and fear, the wind of late autumn and the sun of spring.

The painting of Anze Gallus Petelin: Only a handful of young artists manage to produce an extensive, mature and comprehensive range of paintings. Anze Gallus Petelin is one such artist. His creations follow in the tradition of the College for visual arts, a college, that this talented painter and sculptor comes from. A college, that with this flood of various non-artistic visual practices, carefully cultivates painting, as a fundamental visual art. His work is mature and bold and his artistic outlook is built mainly on knowledge and feeling of ever growing human loneliness in a world of superficial human relationships, a world where communication is transfered into virtual space- and yes, there, everything is possible and all is nice and well and everything turns out great. When this artificial quasi image is uncovered, we are left alone in a real space, ever so small in the vastness of the universe. These are the images that dominate Petelin's canvases. Their address is direct but by no means intrusive or definite, they open a field of universality and humanity and give us a possibility for introspection. Assist. Prof. Mladen Jernejec, M.Sc. Dean of College of visual arts
