The first step of the work thus concerns oil-painting. These structures each represent a subject, a person who once burst into the painter’s life. Each time the intensity of their first contact was such that the artist decided to picture the fascination he felt for these people’s very own ways of building bonds with others, of portraying their personalities through social interactions. However oil-painting on its own appeared to be too limited to depict the complexity of one’s social circles - some, very close and intimate, include family, long-time friends, lovers, the others, more superficial, refer to acquaintance, professional networks, everyday life encounters - and their evolution in time. This limitation brings the work to its second step which is to bring light into the artworks. The lighting system integrated to the structures and spread around the canvas background acts like a revealer of the various aspects of the oil-paintings. It brings a multitude of new lives to the same colours, textures, volumes, and therefore the subject’s multiple facets, through transformation. A metamorphosis of the artworks which is meant to be guided and directed by the public itself. Scanning the whole exhibition space, sensors react to two different kinds of movements: first to the distance set between the structures and a person, allowing that person to increase or dim light by getting closer or further ; then to movements of the public themselves, whether people are waving arms, or bending over.
