About The Artwork
Travel opens new windows for work and inspiration. After a recent trip to Scotland, I worked on this piece not knowing where it was going. After several attempts, layers, lines, the Royal Mile emerged from castle to palace. The painting reflects memory of kilt adorned bagpipers and hundreds of horses on cobblestone during Riding of the Marches. I walked the Royal Mile many times on my visit learning and appreciating bits of history, the architecture (stairstep rooftops!) and traditions of the Scottish people. This piece is a diptych and is ready for hanging.

a southern transplant to the west coast /abstract landscape painter/wife and mother My commitment to painting comes in protest of being caught in the storm. It’s a way for me to search for beauty in solitude and meaning and relationship. In what appears to be randomness, the meeting is planned and executed with structure and purpose. To paint beauty is to oppose tragedy, to oppose illness and death in bursts of color, recesses of deep canyons, fields of vines and palm trees over little red houses. It’s not a new promise but it’s my promise to me for renewal and new beginnings. It’s my road trip to discover the sun peeking through dark clouds at the end of the road.
