I am interest in the isolated consciousness of each human being. The loneliness and fear that we all experience beneath the surface. There are many selves moving within us and only can be presented at once. We are more like a kaleidoscope than an individual. The blurring and many lines the often undefined outline are intentional and more true to me than the concrete image. I have been influenced by so many artists including Bacon, Auerbach, de Kooning, Giacometti. I was unsatisfied by the hostility in de Kooning women, the ubiquitous black and grey of Auerbach drawings, though I love the movement and the indefinite charcoal portraits that go through so many of his beautiful drawings. I tried to get the layers of self but also the color, beauty and pathos without becoming sentimental. I am led in my work to keep going until I believe everything arbitrary has been eliminated.
