About The Artwork
Running color 1 is part of a 4-part series of experiments. It is about chaos in combination with security. The liquid colors seek their way by themselves as they flow across the canvas, but at the bottom they are caught by a thickly applied paint. In September 2022, I bought a canvas again for the first time in a long time to try out a slightly larger format. Also, while cycling in the city, I had an image in my head, a big broad brushstroke of dark blue paint with a little light apricot, a kind of wavy sweep. And this sweep was to be run over with running ink. At home I could try it out right away and the first blue painting stroke has become so thick at the bottom that it could catch the flowing watercolor at the bottom.

As a multidisciplinary designer, Claudia Kaase likes to work and experiment with different mediums. Indian ink meets retinol cream or lip gloss, for example. Unexpected structures arise. Original colors are converted into other color variations, mostly blue. Her work wanders from abstract structures to concrete forms. Born in Melle, Germany and currently living in Münster, Germany. Her influences are abstract expressionism and current events and to this perceived inner reality. Experiments with dried old blue Pelikan ink and espresso led to further experiments with Hello Kitty lip gloss, hairspray, permanent marker, other ink colors, suntan oil, unused wine. Ideally, recycle all things before throwing them away (zero waste).
