In Dunkerque, France, stands one of the largest seashore industrial zone of Europe. One can find there plenty of huge factory in steel and chemicals businesses, nucelar energy, numerous import /export companies, boat building, and so on ... And that is precisely one of my fields of artistic work. i Like the idea of giving a poetical look upon those kind of places. Wich does not mean exactly changing the purpose of these places ... i think of it more like "another way to see places made for being practical in production by giving them an emotional charge". In this case, i was drifting along an endless street of these industrial surrounding. A came across a sandpit. That was a zone where nature and industry were "invading" each other. Sand flies and goes everywhere, in every little crack. And in machines too, leading sometimes to mechanical breaks. Those machines reply by extracting sand and digging shores. Then the sea replies by corroding shore ... Well, you know how it goes ... So, there this sandpit wich, i find, could look like some sort of small desert. there no one execpt sand, grass, bushes and wildflowers. But, as a frontier, the owner of the pit set a billboard there, marking its territory. The fact that the name written on the billboard was phoenix made it very relevant. You may know that a phoenix is a mystical bird constantly burning itself to death and then living an immediate rebirth.

Aurelien Roger Raymond Bonnetaud, alias A.R.R.B, is a visual artist living and working in France. His work depict modern world & human habits by looking trough the prism of architecture & urbanism. this mixed media artworks combine photos taken by the artist and painting techniques ( watercolor, ink, acrylic, oil, spray, ... ) His work stand as a crossing between painting and photography. Most of his pieces aim to achieve a perfect harmony mixing a precise and mecanic approach of "objective photography" with a more emotional touch of paint and gesture. His field of interest mostly focus on architecture and cityscapes. As we may be busy with everyday life tasks, one may not consider our daily surroundings as a source of aesthetic feeling ... as we may more easily see the fonctionnal use of these surroundings : supermarkt, higways, suburbs, factories, subways, street views ... Nevertheless, behind those concrete structures lie a deeper meaning, something that speak about us, something summoning or ancestors and calling for the futur generations. But now is what we are living in. As an artist, A.R.R.B claims to capture, trough those cityscapes and "non-places" [cf.Anthropologist Marc Augé], something of today 's zeitgeist. By doing so, he both carries an action of witnessing our era and interpreting its moods and flow of ideas. For more info or contact : www.arrb.fr
