All my paintings are stylized as antiqued and made in the classic technique of old Masters. ▲ Note: The icons have a number of specific features: cracks (“craquelures”); imitation of loss of the “levkas” and the paint layer. A pattern of minute surface cracks (a network of fine cracks) on painted surface. I developed my own unique technique and technology imitation of craquelure, loss of the “levkas” (gesso) and the paint layer. The crack patterns are artificial (handmade). The craquelure varnish was not used for the stylization! The icons are made to appear aged through the use of artificial methods and various techniques. The majority of the Icons, I have created were painted on aged wood, however, at times I have had to resort to the use of boards created and carved with my own hands, and subsequently aged artificially. In particular, this icon board created and carved with my own hands, and subsequently aged artificially. The “kovcheg” (cut-back centre portion) is deep, with two thin connected cut in the reverse side. All Icons are executed in accordance with the canon, iconographic traditions and iconography technique. The traditional iconography basically imitate rare extant icons of the 16th - 17th – centuries. The icons look old-time (old style/16th - 17th – centuries style) and very similar to the original icons of the 16th - 17th – centuries style. Thanks for looking! ☛‼️ ••• Description of the main scene of the Icon ••• The central part of the icon features St. George on the horseback slaying the dragon against high grassy rocky mountains landscape. St. and Grand Martyr George is one of the most venerated Christian saints, the patron of All Russian Land, warriors and peasants. On order of Emperor Diocleteus, he was decapitated for Christian faith in 303 AD. The hagiography of St. George tells a story of his victory over the monstrous dragon who demanded human victims, and his rescue of Princess Elisaba from death. The tradition tells that a fierce dragon was causing panic at the city of Silene, Libya, at the time Saint George arrived there. In order to prevent the dragon from devastating people from the city, they gave two sheep each day to the dragon, but when the sheep were not enough they were forced to sacrifice humans instead of the two sheep. The human to be sacrificed was elected by the city's own people and that time the king's daughter was chosen to be sacrificed but no one was willing to take her place. Saint George saved the girl by slaying the dragon with a lance. The king was so grateful that he offered him treasures as a reward for saving his daughter's life, but Saint George refused it and instead he gave these to the poor. The people of the city were so amazed at what they had witnessed that they became Christians and were all baptized. The saint is portrayed sitting on a rampant white horse with a flying scarlet cloak behind his shoulders. The angel put a martyr wreath on the head of the saint. On the right is the figure of Princess Elisaba against an architectural landscape. In the windows of the architectural background can be seen the citizens. In the right upper corner of the icon, in the segment of heaven, is the blessing hand of the Lord. At the four corners of the icon, on the borders, are shown the images of Holy Virgin of “Three Hands”, Our Lady (Eleusa) of Yaroslavl, Our Lady of “The Leaping of the Babe” and Our Lady of Vladimir. On the upper border of the icon are shown half-figures of Saint Grand Prince the Pious Alexander Nevsky, Most Holy Theotokos “Fire Appearing” and Grand Prince Oleg of Ryazan in the medallions. On side borders are the figures of the Saints standing (interceding Saints) in frontal poses. On the left, top-down, are the figures of Elijah the Prophet, Holy Equal to the Apostles Great Prince Vladimir and Saint Martyr Valery the Warrior. On the right, top-down, are the figures of Saint Blessed Grand Prince Igor of Chernigov, Venerable Sergius of Radonezh and Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker. On the lower border of the icon are the half-figures of Apostle Andrew the First-Called, Saint Anatoly the Martyr and Saint Martyr Victor the Warrior. THE HALOS AND SOME ELEMENTS OF CLOTHES ARE PAINTED IN GOLD (Gold leaf).
