“A simple expression of a complex thought,” was one of the greatest abstractionists Mark Rothko formulated his tasks. He abandoned the natural image only in order to strengthen the expression of the theme contained in the title. The creation of a sign with the subsequent search for meaning is the vector of abstract expression. This work carries many signs, symbols: the round format of the picture is a reference to the spherical shape of the earth; yellow is the color of the frozen sun, gold, a symbol of wealth, aristocracy, a symbol of spirit and holiness. Against this golden background, a sakura branch has not yet blossomed. Probably, these signs refer us to the ancient Japanese tradition of sakura blossom - khans. This tradition appeared in the 7th century. Then only aristocrats could admire the blossoming sakura, enjoying light music and games. Soon, the holiday became popular among samurai, and later among ordinary people.
