VIEW IN MY ROOM
Merging together drawing and crochet, “Saint-Honoré” investigates the mutual manipulation between art and crafting, between flat surfaces and sculpted shapes, between the organic body and built architecture, as well as between the human world and the rest of the ecosystem. This mixed-media work comments on the processes of reproduction of species and encroachment of territories. A human silhouette is filled with what seems to be the glass facade of a skyscraper, a hybrid shape that is then invaded by vividly orange elements. This drawing bears some resemblance to the classic French pastry, Saint-Honoré; yet underneath the appealing sweetness of its appearance hides an unsettling battlefield of humans, architecture, and microbes. This artwork also has an interactive dimension, allowing the spectators to touch and manipulate the orange puffs, so as to imagine their own encounters with viruses.
