This piece is a small diptych done on two separate square canvas stretched panels, each 12" square. Designed to displayed side by side, there could be some space between them, they could be snugged next to each other (as shown), or even displayed on separate walls. The sides are painted a mid-tone green gray neutral color, and the front faces include a fair amount of smoothed texture that is visible in the photograph. Meant to be intentionally slightly rustic. The imagery is directly inspired by an exhibit of Mughal court painting from the 18th century in India, in particular from the ancient story of the Ramayana. Appreciation of the paintings doesn't depend on any knowledge of the source story, because ... monkeys. What appealed to me was the fantasy storybook quality of some of the landscapes in the originals which spoke directly to me as a deep reflection of humanities place in the natural world, living in harmony and surrounded by awesome beauty. A braided wire is attached to each with d-rings and each is signed on the back by the artist and marked 'right' and 'left' for proper arrangement.

I value the gestural mark, the traces of the human hand in artwork, imperfection and pieces that seek to involve the viewer, requiring them to complete the piece before them. My themes vary widely, wherever my soul, or my nose, takes me. My work is always starts with sketches and studies. I enjoy working with a subject and exploring it repeatedly in multiple pieces that vary in scale and media as a way of challenging my own perception and preconceived notions. I hope the viewer of these also has an experience of renewal and fresh ways of looking.
