This is painted on an old staff map of the border region where Nazi Germany invaded Belgium in May 1940. On the Belgian-Dutch border is a little hamlet called Krapoel. You can see the name left open in Hitler's hair. Krapoel or krapuul is Dutch for lowlife scumbag. The Voer region is a small bilingual area northeast of the province of Liège with 4,200 inhabitants. It is part of the Belgian province of Limburg, and includes about six villages, which have formed the municipality of Voeren since 1977. It has been Dutch-speaking territory since 1963, with French-speaking facilities. The Voer (Fourons)region is a Limburg exclave in the Land of Overmaas, the rest of a larger Limburgish-language area, which used to extend further south. The bilingual county of Dalhem and the old Duchy of Limburg, most of which had always been Limburg-speaking, were incorporated into the province of Liège only from the French era onward.
