About The Artwork
Brigitte Thonhauser-Merk was inspired for the relaxed position of the seated woman by a painting of David Hockney that she discovered in an exibition in Vienna. The strong red colour of the woman's dress and the violet of the armchair in which she is sitting are in contrast to the surrounding imaginary garden scenery in which the artist constructed an environment inspired by her former drawings in black and white with neutral grey. Thus the painting is reflecting in the same time a vivid hapiness and a calm atmosphere.
