‘Second to Last’ Painting

The work is inspired by the materialism that affects the youth of an urban/ cosmopolitan society. I wanted the painting to look delicious, with its vibrant color. Enticing the viewer to peer into the work and begin to conjure up a story of their own. The use of spray paint and acrylic together gives the piece a complexity that evokes the streets of Chicago as well as traditional fine art. Air Jordan’s have become a cultural icon and thus there is a sense for children growing up, that one must have them, to be complete as a person. The expressive use of paint conveys a whirlwind of emotion that runs through a child’s mind as they experience the pain and beauty of coming into their own as a young adult.
