This work is a self portrait on panel. I used this piece of wood as a pallet first, and fell in love with its colors. I then layered more painting and drawing over the top. The portrait is drawn in extreme foreshortening to emphasis a playful fun quality of the subject. Over the top, I drew the new York City skyline, including the Chrysler Building, also in extreme foreshortening. Above the figure are a series of figures that are suspended above the buildings. in this state of suspension they are both falling and flying at the same time. The figures gradually morph into stars and balls as they approach the view of the figure. The work exists in a state of whimsy with a slight taste of dread. The figure is both happy and excited, but also self imposing a jail by the city lines. The figures above are in joyous dreamlike flight, while also falling to their death above the buildings. The line hatching around the figure serves as a way to separate figure from ground, while also creating energy and more jail bars all at the same time. In the top left is a drawing of a short fat man with his tongue out, as an injection of silly humor, and strange uncomfortably.
