About The Artwork

Trying to portray some of myself symbolically. The stone represents my stifling shyness as a child and young adult and the difficulty of crippling inhibitions. The cracks my difficulty in expressing or dealing with any emotions. The Lichens, both depicted and live on the frame, the passing of time. The Highland Cattle and Stag represent my grandparents with whom I spent all my Scottish childhood holidays and a great deal of my growing up. The Eagle my own aspirations and hopes. The Scottish Wildcat a holiday incident, as a child, in the highlands, when I got lost whilst following their footprints. The Scorpion my star sign and tattoo. The Bat my penchant for the night, hiding away and sensitivity to surroundings, and tattoo. The Robin an incident with a seemingly magical Robin whilst I was sitting quietly reading, in an old English country house library many years ago.

What is it every artist is trying to achieve? Recognition? Perfection? Fame? Wealth?... Or are they trying to convey something of themselves? To understand the inner workings of what it is to be a human and how that manifests into the people and the world around them? What shall I paint? Do I try to convey a message? Symbolism? Allegory? A legend? A myth? A story? All questions every artist since the cave has been grappling with and no doubt will continue to do so ad infinitum. My ancestors painted religion, I consider myself to be currently painting that which has replaced it in the age of nihilism, narcissism, identity & sexuality. So I'm trying to paint something that challenges the viewer, that dances on the edge of socially and culturally acceptable. Dares the observer to step outside of convention, to hang one of my paintings is going to require something other than just money, something more important than money... you won't see one of my paintings in the high street gallery!     Buy art because you... ...LOVE IT!                                        Guy. p.s. I have a free signed copy of my full colour art book, which is available on Amazon, if you are the first to send me an email via my 'Contacts' page on website, with 'USINU' as subject I will post you that book as a prize. Thank you for reading this. (I will post note here once over) www.GuyUsinUArtist.co.uk
