This is a fairly new style I've been developing for about 3 years. It's evolved slowly but naturally, and I think subconciously the style itself was inspired by my appreciation and knowledge gained from experimenting with psychedelics in my twenties. I'm 35 now. A common question I get about my work is if I am under the influence of any mind-altering substances while i work. Although I did partake for many years, I haven't in ages, and I never worked under the influence, I like to have a clear mind while working, to achieve the best results of my abilities. These pieces begin with several base layers of acrylic colors, blocking off areas with lines, shapes and various designs. Then I will spend hours meticulously filling in different parts with oil sticks. I usually take breaks for hours or days at a time to let the work breathe, and will come back to it periodically to keep adding layers of color until there isn't any room left. These pieces have appeared in two shows so far, but do not have hanging hardware as they were hung directly on nails. (I will be happy to add the hardware if desired.) The physical texture is layered and rough with globs of acrylic and the little pieces of oil color that build up on the sides of the oil sticks that end up sticking to the canvas. Sensory Photography is also the name of a song I wrote & recorded in 2004 with my first band, The Scenery. The concept is based on my desire to be able to capture the energy and essence one is able to literally see when on psychedelics.

Main goal: I’m just trying to make dope art. 2nd goal: And hopefully one day make a living off it. Ive always been artistic. I just didn’t know you could be an artist as a job. I always liked to draw. My school papers had more drawings, sketches and scribbles than correct answers. I started writing poems/songs around 13/14ish. I tried writing novels and comics with my brother Ryan in junior high. Beginning of 10th grade I began taking a 3 hour Drafting & Design extra-curriculum class 5 days a week until I graduated high school, realizing although I love, appreciate and have a passion for architecture - it’s not a career for me. The summer of 2001 is really where it all culminated - a friend showed me his graffiti, how to make stencils, etc. I made my first stencil and used a can a spray paint on a few utility boxes, and haven’t put it down since. self-taught. outsider. painter. writer. singer. director. editor. email me for inquiries about the rest of my portfolio. or prices. thescenerymediacentre@gmail.com
