This is a textured acrylic painting of a portrait of an African Woman with a multicoloured headwrap and large flower. Her eyes are shut as if in peace and contentment. Aptly entitled Serene which means calm, peace and untroubled. It has real Ankara fabric as the flower as well as spray and metallic paint. A beautiful peace with a very dreamy and whimsical fee. The inspiration behind this painting is the headwraps worn by African women which are such a strong part of their culture. Jedidah observed her mum and other older women wearing their headwraps with pride as she was growing up. It was a symbol of their status or place in life.
